As I was fairly new into the role, I did not have a lot of experience as a team leader. My manager made me aware of the course and we decided that this would be the perfect opportunity for me to learn the skills needed to progress as a team leader.
I hoped that I would learn the skills that would allow me to fully engage my team and ensure that I was able to help them unlock their full potential. In helping each individual, I would then be able to ensure that the team was performing to the highest standard, so that patients were having the best experience possible when visiting the hospital.
I have learned a great number of skills in many different aspects of team leading. I have learned how to adjust my management style, how to lead on projects that would benefit the trust and also how to manage a budget which will be useful for my future career.
I have enjoyed attending the workshops at Riverside, where I have gained a greater understanding of what is expected throughout the qualification. Being able to collaborate with members of staff across the Trust, from different departments (both clinical and administrative) has given me different perspectives and new ways of thinking. I have been able to incorporate others’ ideas into my own team and challenge my own way of thinking.
When I have completed the course, I would like to take on new responsibilities in my role and continue to develop. I would like to continue my career with the NHS and eventually progress to a senior management role.
The support I have received from my trainer, Steve, and Riverside has really helped me to cope with balancing my coursework and full time job role. I have received fair and honest feedback along the way which has helped to strengthen my knowledge and understanding.
